Measuring the Level of Intercultural Competence (IC) among Muslim Religious Leaders in Sri Lanka

As far as the religious leaders are influential in Sri Lankan society, their intercultural competence (IC) level matters for social harmony country. The existing literature found a lack of IC among and highlighted damaging role long history ethnic violence Lanka. Referring to 2019 easter attack, some activists questioned Muslim relevance madrasa education. This research, therefore, evaluates graduates madrasas. For this purpose, Developmental Model Intercultural Sensitivity (DMIS) was adopted. study used mixed method data collection. A quantitative research instrument administered 26 alumni, only 101 responded. Out total participants, 72 (71.3%) were males 29 (28.7%) females. In qualitative approach, 06 Madrasa principles accepted invitation interview. They shared information about curriculum, environment, institution policy, experience dealing with issues IC. ‘minimization or third DMIS all participants.’ 65% participants obtained acceptance adaptation levels Since these madrasas have no other means except Islamic courses develop IC, researchers concluded that education does not oppose multiculturalism. Furthermore, can potentially leaders. conducted who graduated more than ten years ago, is needed ensure current situation.
